Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Flyers forward Jody Shelley received a nine-game suspension for his hit in Wednesday's preseason tilt against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Shelley was docked for his hit on Toronto's Darryl Boyce during the Leafs' 4-2 preseason victory in Philadelphia. He will now miss the final four games of the preseason and the first five games of the regular season. He will be eligible to play on October 20 against Washington. Also, he will lose $67,073.15 in salary.

The eighth overall pick of the 2011 draft, he posted a goal and an assist in his preseason debut against Toronto on Tuesday. The MVP of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season, the 19-year-old totaled 36 goals and 60 assists with the Drummondville Voltigeurs last season.
